I RENAME MY OLD WINDOWS INSTALLTION AND DOCUMENT AND SETTING FOLDERS TO "WINDOWS.OLD" AND "DOCUMENTS AND SETTING.OLD" I THEN INSTALL WINDOWS XP LEAVING THE SYSTEM INTACT INTO C:\WINDOWS. It's "windows 95 secrets" (Livingston & Straub). It appears that, yes, w95 renames certain dos files, so to dual boot, you need to move the old files, then keep dos\windows old dirs, install w95 in a separate directory, then mod msdos.sys. So, I think you need to re-install dos/win3.1, and then re-install w95,

Windows.000 should be the old version and, therefore, not system directory anymore. Check the date of installation in Properties. It should have also been windows.old or something. Maybe if you re-install, and tell the Windows *not* to save the old version? No, Windows.000 is definitely the more recent version.
